Out of Step
I can't keep up/I can't keep up/I can't keep up.
Out of step with the world.

I am a geezer. I like a bunch of the old punk, I like some of the new punk, and I like to talk about the punk I like. I am probably too old for tumblr, so kiss my ass if you can't take a joke.
According to the Facebook page for the movie, the long gestating documentary Bad Brains: Band In DC will premiere at this year’s SXSW film festival. There isn’t a set time for the debut screening but when there is, you’ll want to check here for the details. Also, you can see the trailer here or in the embed below.
Last week an extended preview of a documentary about the long running Lawrence, Kansas punk venue The Outhouse went online. You can click here or try the embed below to see nine minutes from The Outhouse The Film 1985 - 1987, which includes interviews with members of Fugazi, Agnostic Front, DOA, staffers, patrons and more along with vintage footage filmed at the venue. A Kickstarter account has been started up here and the film’s Facebook page can be seen here. More information on the venue itself can be found on its Wikipedia page.
“This revealing and touching film asks what happens when a generation’s ultimate anti-authoritarians — punk rockers — become society’s ultimate authorities — dads. With a large chorus of punk rock’s leading men - Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath - THE OTHER F WORD follows Jim Lindberg, a 20-year veteran of the skate punk band Pennywise, on his hysterical and moving journey from belting his band’s anthem “F—k Authority,” to embracing his ultimately authoritarian role in mid-life: fatherhood.”
Hmm. I wouldn’t label any of these bands or guys punks anymore.
Last week I missed seeing a documentary called X: The Unheard Music followed up with X playing all of Los Angeles - the first night of Riot Fest . I was still in Minnesota and wouldn’t change that for the world … but I am sad a little I missed this show.
A documentary about City Gardens, the old famous punk club in Trenton, NJ! As a Midwesterner, I only recall that venue from that Dickies live album (free shit) but I look forward to going and seeing it!
Bryne Yancey brought this to my attention. If you’ve not seen it, check it out.

Sounds interesting! And just to remind everyone, the 1995 riot grrrl documentary Not Bad for a Girl really should be seen at some point. For comparing and contrasting.
Just saw it at the Siskel. It may not be Harlan County U.S.A. but holy crap it’s inspiring. You heard it here first: this doc is going places.
