They’re cheap, and I am willing to stay with them to see how the fest evolves for another year. Sweet.
The latest video from Off! debuted on Funny or Die this morning. You can see the clip for “Wrong” embedded below. It features the band along with Jack Black acting out a scene from the fictional “lost action epic” Lethal Justice. It was directed byWhitey, the man behind the cat-tastic video for Superchunk’s “Crossed Wires.”

Uh … wow.
Yup, it’s happening. The original Dag Nasty lineup of Shawn Brown, Brian Baker, Roger Marbury and Colin Sears will play their first show in 25+ years on December 28, 2012 at The Black Cat in Washington DC. The show will also feature Government Issue (only their second show in 20+ years), Black Market Baby, Kingface and a special guest to be named still. The show is in celebration of Salad Days: The Birth of Punk Rock In The Nation’s Capital documentary. Tickets for the show will go on sale soon and you can see a trailer for the movie here.
The Secretions, Back in the Day Punk
Riot Fest is over for this year. It was different from the past four or five years. I used to see the same people every year but most of them didn’t go to this one. And the few that did were all complaining about the quality of the bands, the suburban audience, and Riot Mike selling out to be Perry Farrell. And they all insisted they would never come back to Riot Fest again.
I thought there were pluses and minuses. I hated being at a show and watching a big screen TV to see the band. I couldn’t imagine Seven Seconds or Negative Approach playing there, it was a different type of music and a different audience.
But I had a funnel cake! And I rode a ferris wheel! And the food options were fantastic compared to the greasy slices of pizza they were offering at the Congress in previous years.
So Riot Fest was different. I’ll still go next year, but maybe for different reasons than previous years. I refuse to start bitching about how things were better or “more punk” back in the day - I would sound too much like my parents.
It’s just different.
Common Enemy, Hey Kid Wake Up
When I was a kid I used to wake up at 6:30 am because my brain was screaming “It’s Christmas!”
This morning, I woke up at 6:30 am because my brain was screaming “It’s Riot Fest!”
Admittedly, that is a little fucked up.
So, we said we may be releasing a few tickets for The Offspring show for Riot Fest’s opening night at Congress…And now we are. Get ‘em before they’re gone.
Avoiding the whole “Is Offspring still punk” question … so just FYI.
